I wonder if this is funded by the Nautilus mining corporation, the Deep Sea Mining company that started it's operation in PNG. And whether these "exploration phases", which are normally framed as educational, could be the door to deep sea mining activities. "Scientific exploration" is the new language that often hides the processes of the first phase of mining. Am. Samoa government should be cautious, unless it's a local driven project for environmental protection, not for mining agendas.
